Linear Bearing

A bearing that provides smooth, low-friction motion along a straight line, used in CNC machines, 3D printers, and automated manufacturing equipment.

What Is a Linear Bearing?

A linear bearing provides low-friction, precisely guided motion along a straight axis. It uses recirculating ball or roller elements inside a carriage block that rides on a hardened, precision-ground shaft or rail.

Types

Ball bushings (LM series): cylindrical, ride on round shafts. Linear guide blocks: ride on profiled rails for higher rigidity and load capacity. Roller guides: use cylindrical rollers for maximum load in machine tools.

Applications

CNC machining centers, 3D printers, packaging machines, semiconductor equipment, and robotic pick-and-place systems. NSK and SKF linear guides are available from SMS Bearings for industrial automation in the UAE.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a linear bearing and a rotary bearing?

Rotary bearings support rotating shafts. Linear bearings support translation (straight-line motion) along a shaft or rail. Linear bearings use recirculating balls or rollers inside a carriage that slides on a precision-ground rail or shaft.
