Spark Plug

An ignition component that delivers an electrical spark across an electrode gap to ignite the air-fuel mixture in a petrol engine combustion chamber.

What Is a Spark Plug?

A spark plug is an ignition component that delivers a precisely timed high-voltage electrical spark across an electrode gap inside the combustion chamber of a petrol (gasoline) engine. This spark ignites the compressed air-fuel mixture, initiating the power stroke. SMS Bearings is an authorized distributor of BRISK spark plugs in the UAE.

Components

Terminal nut, ceramic insulator, metal shell with thread, ground electrode, center electrode (copper, platinum, or iridium), and internal resistor. See the Spark Plug Inspection Guide for detailed anatomy and diagnostic reading.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should spark plugs be replaced?

Standard copper spark plugs: every 30,000-50,000 km. Platinum plugs: 60,000-100,000 km. Iridium plugs: 80,000-120,000 km. In the UAE's hot climate, check plugs 10-20% sooner due to accelerated electrode erosion from higher combustion temperatures.
