Shaft Alignment

The process of aligning two coupled rotating shafts so their centerlines are collinear, minimizing vibration, bearing loads, and seal wear.

What Is Shaft Alignment?

Shaft alignment is the process of positioning two coupled shafts so their rotation centerlines are precisely collinear. Misalignment -- either angular (axes intersect at an angle) or parallel offset (axes are parallel but displaced) -- is the second leading cause of bearing failure after lubrication problems.

Methods
