What Is a Pillow Block?
A pillow block (also called a plummer block or pedestal bearing) is a mounted bearing unit consisting of a cast iron housing with a pre-installed self-aligning insert bearing. It bolts to a flat surface via two mounting holes in the base, making it the simplest and most common way to support a rotating shaft.
Selection
UCP (pillow block) series are sized by shaft diameter: UCP204 (20mm), UCP205 (25mm), UCP206 (30mm), etc. For heavy loads, choose SNL split plummer blocks with spherical roller bearing inserts. Our Installation & Alignment Guide covers mounting, alignment, and shimming procedures. SMS Bearings supplied pillow blocks for the Agricultural Equipment Program in Iraq.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size pillow block do I need?
Pillow block size is determined by the shaft diameter. For example, UCP205 fits a 25mm shaft, UCP206 fits a 30mm shaft. The bearing insert inside is a self-aligning ball bearing with set-screw or eccentric collar locking. Match the housing to your shaft diameter and load requirements.
